This article details the process of moving already installed catalogs to a new location. This can be helpful if you have a large number of catalogs installed and wish to avoid having to remove and reinstall them all from scratch. The most common reason(s) for needing to move the catalogs would be if you are low on hard drive space and with to relocate them to another local drive or if you do not have admin rights, and you wish to establish the catalogs to a custom folder which would then allow the primary user to update and install catalogs without needing admin permissions.
Requirements:
Software version 2026.1 or above (How to check your office software version)
Admin permissions to the local PC.
Process:
- Fully exit all Office applications (Worksheet, CAP, Giza, VI, AutoCAD) as well as any other demanding applications that could be using system resources.
- Create a new empty folder of where you want to move your catalogs to. For example, we will be moving our catalogs from the default installation location of C:\ProgramData to a new custom folder of C:\OnDemand. Just substitute your new desired path location when applicable below.
- From the Windows start menu search, type Diagnostics, and open the Diagnostics app (yellow gear icon).
- Select the On-Demand Diagnostics icon.
- Under the Storage & Migration section, use the browse ... button to change the catalog location path to the new destination folder you created in step 2.
- Then click the Move Catalogs... button.
- Select Yes on the next dialog to start the move process.
- The move process can take several minutes and is dependent on several factors such as the number of catalogs being moved, the destination location, and the general performance of the system as a whole. When the process is complete the following message will appear. Click Ok.
- Click Close on the Diagnostics main dialog.
- If you are a Worksheet only user, CAP Designer, or CAP Complete user, you are done. You may return to your applications and will now be using catalogs from the new location. If you are a Giza user, please continue to step 11.
-
Giza User Only: It may be necessary to point Giza to the new catalog location if you needed to provide admin rights to open the diagnostics tool. Open the Giza program, and then go to the Tools menu, and select Options.
-
Giza User Only: Select the Files tab, and then click the advanced button. Confirm that the Common library path is now pointing to a Giza subfolder in your new catalog location path that you setup in step 2. If it is, you are all set. If it's still pointing to the old location, use the browse button to change to the new catalog folder, and make sure to select the Giza subfolder that will be present in the location. Click apply if needed, and then close and restart Giza. Confirm your catalogs are now working normally in Giza.
