When installing the Office software you receive the following error.
Error 1327.Invalid Drive: H:\ (or other drive letter)
First verify if the driver letter referenced in the error is connected and available to the system. In the above example, a customer had their documents redirected to an H:\ drive but was working remotely and the drive was offline. It simply required connecting to the VPN to have the drive be available. Once the drive was available, the installation could proceed without the error.
If the drive is connected and available, but you are still getting the error, then it could be a permission setting in Windows. The installer runs with elevated permissions and in some cases the mapped drive letter might not be available to the installer. The steps below detail a setting that must be done in the Windows registry to allow for the drive to be available when running elevated permissions. If you are not familiar with editing the Windows registry you may wish to seek assistance with your company IT personnel or helpdesk.
- In Registry editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
- Right-click on the System folder, select New, and then select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name the new registry entry as EnableLinkedConnections.
- Double-click the EnableLinkedConnections registry entry.
- In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data field, and then select OK.
- Make sure it is spelled and looks exactly as highlighted below.
- Exit the Registry editor, and then restart the computer.
- Once the computer is restarted, verify the driver letter is connected, and proceed to install the software.
