Problem
You re-open a drawing or use Zoom All and the drawing zooms out too much or to the size of a dot and does not fit or fill the screen as it should.
Example: Drawing stays zoomed out with plenty of white space visible around the main drawing.
Cause
The Zoom All command zooms the drawing in or out as much as it needs to fit all objects on the screen. If the main drawing does not fit the screen, then one or more other objects are placed at a great distance from the rest of the main drawing. If you can identify those as valid items, you can move them back to the main drawing area and the drawing should then zoom correctly. Many times we see this problem from an imported DWG file. Some DWG elements may not import properly and some of these objects may be invisible attribute information, making them difficult to find. The below solution describes how to delete these far away objects using an invert selection.
Solution
- Draw a selection window around the main drawing to select the portion you want to keep
- Wait for the drawing to highlight (it should become red indicating it is selected)
- From the Edit pull down menu, choose Select, and then Invert
- This will invert your selection
- When you see your drawing finish deselecting, press the Delete key on your keyboard
- This should delete the items that were outside your initial selection window and that were preventing your drawing from zooming correctly
- Click the Zoom All button
and the drawing should then zoom to fit the screen
