Problem
Your drawing disappears entirely after using the "HIDE" command in AutoCAD.
Cause
The issue is caused by having certain layers set to "Frozen" when issuing the "HIDE" command.
Corrective Action
If the drawing disappears as a result of the above issue, the following steps can be performed to restore the drawing to view.
- Switch the drawing to Model Space Plan View.
- Using the 2020 Content Explorer, insert any Cap furniture item into the drawing.
- Now type "REGEN" on the command line and press enter.
- The drawing should reappear.
- You can now erase the part you inserted from step 2.
Workarounds
If you need to use the traditional HIDE command, it is best to unfreeze any layers before doing so. Depending on the reason you are using the HIDE command, there could also be other ways to accomplish your goal without needing to use the actual HIDE command. For example, if the reason for using HIDE is just for a visual check of the drawing or plotting, the below tips could be used instead.
If you are using the HIDE command just to visually check how the 3D looks, consider using a visual style instead. Change the Visual Style from "2D Wireframe" to "Hidden" to quickly render your view to check the 3D. When done, set the mode back to 2D Wireframe.
If you need to plot a viewport in hidden line view, it is best to set your viewport shade plot to "Legacy Hidden." This way, AutoCAD will hide the drawing during the plot automatically without you needing to issue the HIDE command up front.
