Problem
You are inserting Cap symbols into a floor plan. You then switch to an isometric view and notice that all the items you have inserted have lines protruding from the them.
Example:
Cause
The drawing you are working with likely has a Thickness setting other than 0. This property can be used to give the appearance of 3D thickness to 2D drawings. Many times an architect may use this setting while creating the floor plan. The drawing is then given to a space planer who is not aware that the Thickness setting may be set to something other than 0. They then start inserting the furniture symbols only to discover later on of this issue once they happen to look at the drawing from a 3D perspective or isometric view. It is a best practice to verify the thickness setting is set to 0 before starting work of inserting your 2020 objects.
Solution
The first step is to verify the Thickness setting and set the value to 0.
- Type Thickness on the command line and press enter.
- It will ask you to enter a new value for Thickness. Type 0 and then press enter.
The symbols that have already been placed will not immediately be corrected. We will need to redefine the blocks to attempt to correct their appearance.
- Activate the 2020 Cap command - Convert Plan to 3D
- It will ask you to select objects: Type ALL and press the enter key twice.
- This will convert all your 2020 objects in the drawing to 3D. This may take several minutes depending on how complicated the drawing is.
- Once all items have been converted to 3D, type PURGE on the command line and press enter.
- Click the Purge All button to purge the drawing. Keep clicking the Purge All button until it becomes ghosted and can no longer be clicked.
- Activate the 2020 Cap command - Convert 3D to Plan
- It will ask you to select objects: Type ALL and press the enter key twice.
- This will convert all the 3D 2020 objects in the drawing back to 2D. This may take several minutes depending on how complicated the drawing is.
- Once all items have been converted to 2D, type PURGE on the command line and press enter.
- Click the Purge All button to purge the drawing. Keep clicking the Purge All button until it becomes ghosted and can no longer be clicked.
If all went well, your Cap symbols should be redefined.
Note: Objects that use structural buildup optioning may not fully restore. Those objects may need to be re-specified or deleted and replaced.
