Problem:
2020 Worksheet and other design-related applications may crash when Nahimic audio software is also installed on the computer. Nahimic commonly comes pre-installed on many "gaming" type laptops. Many times, users are unaware of its existence or that it can cause problems with certain programs.
Solution:
The Nahimic software has an exclusion file named "blackapps.dat". By adding an application to this file, it essentially instructs Nahimic to ignore the application and should prevent the crash since the two programs will no longer attempt to communicate with each other. The instructions below show how to find and add the appropriate 2020 application names to the file.
1. Fully exit your 2020 applications.
2. Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\A-Volute.
3. Use the Search box to search for a filed called BlackApps.dat. (The location of this file varies depending on the version of Nahimic that is installed on the computer, but it should be in one of the sub-folders inside of the A-Volute folder).
4. Right click on BlackApps.dat and select Properties.
5. Select the Security tab and click the Edit button.
6. Select Users under the group and check the Allow box for Full Control.
7. Click Apply and close the Security and Properties windows.
8. Open the BlackApps.dat file in Windows Notepad. (You can right click on the file and choose "Open With..." And then click more apps and select Notepad from the list)
9. Once you open BlackApps.dat in Notepad, you will see a list of various programs already included in the file. Scroll down to the bottom of the file and add the following three 2020 Office applications to the list.
CAPWorksheet.exe
VisualApp.exe
VisualServiceTrayApp.exe
10. Save the file and then exit Notepad.
11. Reopen your 2020 application.
