Giza Typicals
Rather than recreating a configuration from scratch every time it is needed in a project, you can save it as a typical. This will allow you to place the typical in other drawing files where it may be needed. This process can save a tremendous amount of time when creating multiple layouts of the same furniture configuration or even combining multiple drawing files into a single drawing. This is also the recommended process for Giza if you need to combine two separate drawing into a single drawing file. Create a typical of one of the drawings, and then just insert it into the other.
Creating a Typical
- Select the item(s) in the drawing that you wish to create the typical from.
- Once the items are selected, right click on any one of the selected items and choose Utilities and then Make Typical.
- In the Make Typical dialog, type a name for the typical in the File field. The folder in which the typical will be saved is noted above. If you wish to save the typical into another folder, you may use the Browse button to change the folder.
- Select the desired option in the Make Typical from: section. In most cases, if you are selecting a portion of the drawing you will use Selected Elements, but you do have the option to create a typical of the entire drawing if needed.
- The next step is to choose an Origin point for the typical. This will determine how the typical will be attached to your cursor when you go to place it. If precise placement of the typical will not be necessary, you can choose Upper Left, Center, or Lower Left. If you use Choose Point, click the
button. You will then use the crosshairs to choose a point on the furniture to become the insertion point. This point will normally be at a corner, such as where a work surface would attach to a panel.
- Click the Save button to save the typical.
Placing a Typical
- Open the Giza drawing that you wish to place the typical into.
- From the Draw menu choose Typical...
- The Place Typical dialog will appear. Choose the typical you wish to place. The name of the last typical you saved will appear in the dialog by default. Click the Browse button to select a different typical file.
- Click the Place button to place the typical.
- An outline of the typical will appear attached to your cursor. You may now place the typical in your drawing as you would any Giza part. You may use the arrow keys on the keyboard to rotate the typical prior to placement and use snapping if attaching the typical to existing furniture or objects.
