Autodesk has slowly been moving away from the old classic toolbar interface in AutoCAD since they introduced the ribbon in 2009. They maintained a classic workspace up until AutoCAD 2015 that would let you quickly switch back to the classic mode. That classic workspace setting is no longer included in the current AutoCAD versions. At this time most users are familiar and comfortable working with the ribbon and that is what we recommend. If you prefer, below are steps to setup your AutoCAD interface to the old classic style.
Enable the Menu Bar
Type MENUBAR on your command line and press enter. You will be asked to enter a new value for the MENUBAR. Type 1 and then press enter.
The classic pull down menus should now be seen across the top of AutoCAD.
Close the Ribbon
To close the ribbon type RIBBONCLOSE on your command line and press enter. This will turn off the ribbon.
If you wish to turn the ribbon back on, simply type RIBBON on the command line and press enter.
Turn on your Desired Toolbars
With the ribbon now out of the way and your pull down menus enabled, you can now turn on those classic toolbars.
Click the Tools menu and then select Toolbars. You can then select the either AutoCAD or CAPDesigner and then click the toolbar name you wish to enable. You should then see that toolbar appear floating on your screen. You can then drag and dock the toolbar to the desired location across the top or sides.
You can also dock the command line by clicking and dragging the command line to the bottom of the screen so that it docks.
Your AutoCAD interface should now be pretty close to the old classic style. Be sure to consult your AutoCAD Help guide or the AutoCAD Knowledge Center if you require more information about customizing AutoCAD.
