Creating an Angled Selection Set Using a Crossing Polygon
We can use a crossing or window polygon when needing to create a selection of items on an angle.
The following example is shown using the “ERASE” command in combination with quickly selecting a number of parts by using a Crossing Polygon, however this can be used whenever a command is active when a selection is required.
- Type Erase on the command line and press Enter.
- When the Select Objects: prompt appears, type CP and press Enter.
Note: You can also type WP if a window polygon is preferred. See tip below for the difference between crossing and window
- Specify the first point of the polygon and continue to choose your desired points.
- After you have chosen a minimum of 3 points, press Enter to complete the polygon.
- Review the selection set and then press Enter to complete the command.
- In this example the items we selected with the crossing polygon window will be erased.
Tips:
- A Crossing Selection is indicated on screen with dashed line and green background. This selects all objects within the region, plus any objects crossing or touching the boundary line of the region.
- A Window Selection is indicated on screen with a solid line and blue background. Only objects fully contained within the region are selected.
