With the introduction of Visual Impression into the design and specification process, new Worksheet file names are created to allow users to easily identify whether files can be viewed with Visual Impression.
-
.SP4 files (Classic Worksheet): Worksheet files created with a takeoff from Cap, Complete, or Giza prior to release 2011. Also, files created using only Worksheet with release 2011 will have a .SP4 extension as they do today. These files do not contain the graphic information required to be used with Visual Impression.
-
.visual.sp4 (Visual Worksheet): New Worksheet files created with a take-off from Giza 2011 or later that contain the necessary graphic information for these files to be visualized in Visual Impression. The files will also save information and data created in Visual Impression (room sizes and settings, snapshots, single item previews).
Some behaviors in .visual.sp4 files that you need be aware of:
-
Visual Worksheet files can be used with a new Update against Visual Worksheet feature in Giza that allows finish and scene information from a visual worksheet to be applied back to the originating drawing.
-
Standards behave as they do in AutoCAD. When you make a change to one instance, any other instance of the same standard gets updated with that change.
-
Visualization Tips: .visual.sp4 files contain Visualization Tips. Bubble tips appear in various situations where the behavior is different in a Visual worksheet (as compared to a Classic worksheet). You will see a Visualization tip in Worksheet when:
-
You reduce the quantity of an item in a visual worksheet below the number of items that you have in the drawing.
Doing this will remove the number of items you have selected from your Visual Impression scene. The user is unable to select the specific items they want to remove.
Note: Product changes are expected to be done within the drawing for Visual Impression to provide accurate visualization. Worksheet will allow it, but will affect the accuracy of your scene when visualized. -
Flattening
When you flatten a standard in Worksheet, the items are converted to non-plan items indicating that they haven’t been placed in the drawing. These items are then identified with an Unplanned symbol
Items identified by an Unplanned symboldo not appear in the scene in Visual Impression.
-
Adding an item to the worksheet via Drag/Drop or Send To.
The item is placed in the worksheet and identified with an Unplanned symbol

-
Adding an item, standard, or panel configuration using the Insert command from the Item or right-click menu.
-
Item, standard, or panel configuration is placed in the worksheet and identified with an Unplanned symbol
-
Items identified by an unplanned icon do not appear in the scene in Visual Impression.
-
Removing an item, standard, or panel configuration using the Delete or Cut command from the Item or right-click menu.
-
Deleting the item, standard, or panel configuration and that item will no longer appear in the scene in Visual Impression.
-
Making changes to the MFG, CAT, or PN fields.
Any change to the MFG, CAT, or PN fields converts those items to non-plan items and identifies them with an Unplanned symbol
Items identified by an Unplanned symboldo not appear in the scene in Visual Impression.
-
-
Split
Visual worksheets allow you to split a planned items; however, the finishes in Visual Impression may be affected.
Note: Visualization Tips can be turned off via a check box in Tools > Preferences on the General tab.
-
.associated.visual.sp4 (Associated Worksheet): New Associated Worksheet files created with a take-off from Giza 2011. These files contain the necessary graphic information for them to be visualized using in Visual Impression while maintaining their link to the associated drawing for synchronization. The files will also save information and data created in Visual Impression (room sizes and settings, snapshots, single item previews). These associated worksheet files behave as they did in previous versions.
Some behaviors in .associated.visual.sp4 files that you need to be aware of are:
The worksheet has the same name as the drawing it is associated with, with the extension .associated.visual.sp4.
You can open the associated drawing by clicking the DWG button on the Worksheet toolbar. This command saves the associated worksheet and automatically updates the associated drawing before opening it.
If you no longer want this worksheet to be associated to the Cap or Cap Complete drawing, use the Save as Visual Worksheet or the Save as Classic Worksheet command on the File menu. Visual Worksheets can be used with Visual Impression, while Classic Worksheets cannot.
-
If you add an item, the Unplanned symbol
appears in the first column (Item # column). When you update the drawing in Cap or Cap Complete, this unplanned item is saved in the drawing's Non-plan item list (NPIL).
-
The Qty value is the sum of non-planned and planned quantities. To view non-planned and planned values, activate the Non-plan Ct and Plan Ct columns.
-
If you change the Qty, the non-Plan Ct value changes accordingly. Notice that the Unplanned symbol also appears in the first column.
-
If you enter a value in Qty that is less than Plan Ct, Worksheet alerts you and resets the value back to the planned quantity.
-
Association Tips: .associated.visual.sp4 files contain Association Tips. Bubble tips appear in various situations where the behavior is different in an Associated Worksheet. You will see an Association Tip in Worksheet when:
-
You attempt to edit the the Mfg, Alt Mfg, Cat and Part Number fields as these fields cannot be edited in associated worksheets.
-
You attempt to split items. Items cannot be split in associated worksheets.
-
You delete an item.
-
You try to flatten outline levels or standards. This cannot be done in an associated worksheet.
-
-
If you have locks in a worksheet, they will be removed when you save the worksheet.
-
When you cut or copy an item and then paste it, that item will be considered as a non-plan item when you update the drawing against the associated worksheet.
-
You can convert planned items to specials by checking the Special column.
-
If you update preview images, your images will still be there even if you update the worksheet from Cap or Cap Complete later on.
-
Standards created in Worksheet are considered as non-planned. When you update the drawing in Cap or Cap Complete, the Standard will be listed in the Non-plan item list.
-
Outline levels created in Worksheet cannot be tied to a CAP bound within the associated drawing. You cannot insert outline levels in an associated worksheet.
Note: Association Tips can be turned off via a check box in Tools -> Preferences on the General tab.
How to make existing worksheet files into visual files:
-
To create a visual worksheet from a drawing, you must rerun the take-off. Finishes and information from the original worksheet will then be brought into the visual worksheet by using update against worksheet.
-
Associated worksheets become associated. Visual worksheets automatically when one drawing or the worksheet is updated against the other.
