The Assign Tool
When the information of a column is the same for many line items, you can use the Assign feature to quickly fill in all the cells. The most common usage we see in support is needing to assign tags or alias values to several items in a worksheet or drawing at once.
The Assign tool is available in both Cap and Worksheet. Below are instructions for Worksheet.
How to Use Assign in Worksheet
In the following example, we will assign an Alias 1 value of "Tech Support" to a worksheet.
-
The Assign command can be located in the Home tab at the top of Worksheet. Click Assign, and then choose the Assign command from the drop down.
-
The Assign dialog will now appear. The columns that you have open in your worksheet will be reflected in the Assign dialog. If you do not have a column open in the worksheet, you will not see it as an available column to assign.
-
Place a check mark next to Alias 1 (Or the desired column you wish to assign information to).
-
Type the desired information in the Assign Value area. In this example, Tech Support
-
If you want to assign the value only to certain line items, you can check Assign only to selected items.
Note: You do need to have your line items pre-selected before activating the assign tool. -
Press OK to assign the value(s).
Note: The Option and Attribute Values section of the Assign tool can be used to assign Options and Attribute values to line items if needed. You can use the Add button to add any number of option or attribute lines.
