Activating the Replace Tool
To activate the command, go to the Home tab and select Replace. You can also use the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+R.
Using the Replace Dialog
- Type the information you want to replace in the Find What field.
- Type the new information in the Replace With field.
- Set the Replace in Column to the appropriate column where the values will be replaced.
- You can also use the Replace in Row drop down to further limit the replacement to the product or option rows if needed.
- The Replace In section lets you quickly do all items of the Worksheet or just a specific selection set.
- Click the Replace button to replace just a single occurrence or click Replace All to replace all occurrences at once.
Common Use Cases
- One use case might be to quickly update or change tagging. In the screenshot example shown above, we are using the replace command to change the Alias 1 value from Sales to Training for all items of the worksheet.
- Another common use case would be to help manage a manufacturer catalog code change or consolidation. A manufacturer may from time to time move products from one catalog to another or perhaps consolidate or discontinue various product lines. An existing Worksheet project you may have started before the change occurred may need to be updated. You could use this command to change the catalog or manufacturer code to the new code where the product now resides.
Tip: If you highlight the information you want to replace before activating the Replace command, that text is automatically entered in the Find What field. The correct column will also be set for you in the Replace in Column section.
